The main problem of Diesel engines is the black smoke emission which is both undesirable and acts an irritant.
The GORGO filter uses water to purify diesel exhaust fumes by up to 85% by utilising a special washing system which BERSY have developed and employed in this GORGO filter.
In addition to purification, the GORGO filter also reduces the temperature of exhaust fumes as well as the transformation of Nitrogen Oxide to toxic Nitrogen Dioxide.
The GORGO filter also acts as a silencer and spark arrestor, even when there is no water in the system.
The GORGO filter is made in AISI 316 stainless steel with titanium and is resistant to high temperature and to corrosive sulphurous compounds present in the exhaust fumes.
The GORGO consist of an horizontal cylindrical body (diameter varies depending on engine size) which makes up the water tank, two brackets for fixing the purifier and a cylindrical tower containing a separator situated in the upper part of water tank.
The fumes are conveyed through an entry tube to the interior of the filter and passed in fine bubbles through the water.
The carbonaceous particles becomes heavier on contact with the water and fall to the bottom of the water tank.
Steam vapour will be released from the filter when the system is at working temperature, consisting mainly of water.
Bersy is Italy leader in diesel exhaust filters, and adheres to the guidelines concerning exhaust gas reduction issued by Experimental Station of Combustibles in Milan. As a result, Bersy is in a position to attest to the efficiency of its products as the graphs below show.
Maintenance
Due to the nature of the filter the water must be replaced every 8 hours of usage, by empting it through the spherical escape valve and then introducing clear water through the inlet port.
The efficiency of the water filter can be seen when changing the water which emerges as a black sludge.
After approximately every 300 hours, the system need to be washed out with a high pressure jet to remove the build up of carbon from the exhaust.
In order to keep the purifier as clean as possible, Bersy has developed TAM additive for addition to the water whenever it is replaced.
Installation
The GORGO filter can be fitted at any location of the unit and at any distance from the engine:
To simplify the installation, Bersy manufacture a wide range of kits which are listed in the price list.
To satisfy the need of different installation, Bersy manufactures two different models: standard model and flanged version.
For engine of less then 110 KW, the standard model and the flanged version are available; for engines of over 147 KW, only the flanged version is supplied.
